Hi Jane
Good to hear from you, as Geraldine says it’s really not surprising that you’re anxious when you go for your mammogram. I’d like to reassure you that although mix-ups with case notes do happen, all staff take annual training in what the NHS calls ‘Information Governance’; this is training in how to spot mistakes and correct them, and more…[Read more]

Hi Marya, just a quick question. I see that you’ve used the forum, thank you, and I’ve clicked on the link – is this an essay writing service, designed so that the student doesn’t need to actually write the essay themselves?

Thank you!! We are getting very excited about the awards ceremony: thoughts have turned to clothes and shoes, and someone suggested that we should all appear with big WOMMeN badges on our tops, haha!
Thanks also for letting us know how treatment is going for you – I find any information like this valuable, so that I can follow any medical…[Read more]

That’s another good idea – and Julie, yes, has anyone ever collected this sort of thing together and put it ‘out there’?
If not, great time to maybe do so – but if people who had used them gave their opinion too and that was included, even better?

Gosh ,yes, Public Health messages too. Good call there, Shaheeda, I recall being asked that question myself! Leaflets to hand out would be helpful, and I really should know my onions when it comes to other forms of screening.

Julie, yes I’ve altered my practice as digital mammography came in; I never used to bother for the CC views (top-to-bottom pics, y’all) but I do now for the whole lot. However, if I’m chatting to someone and they’re chatting back, I find my incredibly English-let’s-be-polite culture comes to the fore and i’m waiting for them to finish before I…[Read more]

What do people prefer, do you think?
An interview about their clinical history, or a questionnaire? We have a questionnaire to save time in the room so that we can spend more time on the image; this is the hope – but is this friendly enough?

Hello peeps, I’m Beverley and I’m late to the party, sorry!
I find that unfortunately I can’t do chit-chat whilst I’m imaging for a few reasons:
I need to get the position correct, and I like to explain not only where I want the clients to stand but also why, what I’m trying to achieve
And I also can’t risk anyone talking back to me when the…[Read more]

You’ve got to appreciate the ideas that some people have – that’s brilliant. I have heard from people before that the weight of the ‘traditional’ prosthetics can be off-putting; these seem to be more versatile too – I love the swimming thing! I wonder if the breast care nurses in my unit keep a sample? Will check.

Whilst looking for something else, I happened across this article:
When health means suffering: mammograms, pain and compassionate care.

I think it needs to emphasise how important RAISING YOUR ARMS is when looking at your breast too. I see from that infographic that the arms are raised, but it doesn’t make it clear that dimples and distortions are easier to see when both arms are above your head.
So, in addition to ‘Coppafeel’ we should have ‘hands up!’. See what I did there?…[Read more]
